Casework Restoration

As 2025 begins, so starts the winding-down (no pun intended) towards retirement. We have spent many years in the restoration of fine antique furniture and clock casework. From this point onwards, we will only be undertaking minor repairs and re-finishing to the casework of smaller sized clocks. We are no longer accepting commissions for the woodwork restoration of long case clocks.

The views above show restoration work being carried out on the casework of an early 18th. Century 'Dutch Marquetry' long case. Years of neglect had left their mark on the intricate veneers.

These two views above show (left) the casework of the clock in-situ at the time of collection, with numerous sections of veneer missing and overall very tired and faded. the picture on the right was taken following completion of restoration work.

These three photos show 'before / during / after' the casework restoration of a late 19th. Century French four-glass mantel clock. Specialist cleaning solutions are used to bring back the shine of the original gilding.

Showing how the finish of a French carriage clock brass case can be revived to its former glory.

Good repair work should only be visible under close examination. Any new repairs that can be seen from a distance will detract from the appearance of the clock.
